Your route into the industry

Our Managed Learning Program (MLP) has been running since 2010, and in that time we've helped 100's of candidates get their start in the gas trade. No prior experience in the plumbing & heating trade is necessary (although it certainly helps) and during your time with us you'll be equipped with all the knowledge you need to pass an ACS Initial Gas Course and start your new career.

We offer both domestic and commercial MLP routes, so whatever your scope, we've got you covered.

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be with you every step of the way, and small groups of no more than 6 candidates per class ensure you receive the best possible training.

"I can't thank you enough as a training centre for how much I've learned and grown as an engineer over the years. Im proud to work on some of the UK's largest industrial gas equipment with confidence that stemmed from my time spent at EDS."

Becca Weston - Former MLP candidate and 2024 On The Tools award winner.

What's involved?

Classroom theory training

Over a span of 25 weeks you will receive an in-depth and concise program of training to cover all aspects of gas safety. Throughout the course your knowledge will be tested to ensure you're up to speed. We don't just train you to pass the tests, we aim to instil a strong ability to work safely and effectively in all of our candidates for years to come.

2

Workshop practical training

Don't worry, you won't be stuck in the classroom all day every day. Practical training makes up a vital portion of the syllabus and throughout the course you'll have the opportunity to put what you've learned into practice, and hone your hands on skills in safety-critical tasks and processes, giving you the first hand experience you need to get the job done.

3

Portfolio of evidence

Throughout your course, and as your skills and knowledge progress, you will be required to fill out a portfolio of 'on the job' evidence. This crucial aspect of the qualification follows your progression job by job, where you will provide photographic evidence and job write-ups to prove your experience and competence before sitting your final gas course. Having access to an already qualified engineer to assist in this process is vital, please speak with us if you have any concerns with this.

4

Final assessment

At the end of your course, after all theory question papers and your portfolio of evidence is complete and signed off, you will be invited back to sit your Initial ACS course. Taken over a week you will receive refresher training on all aspects covered in the course, before completing a final set of written theory papers and an in-depth practical assessment where one of our assessors will ensure you meet the required standards to be a fully qualified gas operative.
